19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hard surfaces
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his first title for 882 days with success over Corentin Moutet in the competition final.
The Russian, a former world number one, has experienced a challenging period, achieving just one match at the big events and experiencing a setback at the American major.
Medvedev's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serve in specific - led to him dropping out of the elite rankings and ultimately separating with former mentor Cervara.
Now working with Johansson and his other coach, he has consistently progressed in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested three-set victory over challenger Moutet.
This marks the player's maiden title following the Rome competition and first on a hard surface after spring of the previous year.
Success also indicates Medvedev has secured 21 titles at twenty-one distinct competitions.
"It's the first time I have attended a tournament with my both daughters together, so to win a title is especially meaningful," stated world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.
"This championship is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I achieved when my child Alisa was born was for her."
The tennis star, the past champion, had failed in his previous six championship matches, featuring in that event earlier this year.
The player's counter-punching play style and recurring outbursts on the tennis court had led some to doubt if his ability to compete at the top level was finished.
Yet the player has implemented adjustments in the past month, striving to advance forward and perform aggressively, supported by an enhanced serve.
The champion fought back from a disadvantage in the first set against the difficult Frenchman, taking four of the last five exchanges to take the lead.
The pair swapped break points in the middle set before Moutet, bidding for his initial professional championship, gained dominance to create a final set.
The opponent saved four early-game chances in a tight final set before Medvedev broke to that score to secure the win.
Appropriately, Medvedev clinched the title with a rally at the front of the court, with his opponent failing to control a return after over two and a half hours.
