Around 50 automobiles have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a statement.
Officers report they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored fluid.
The substance had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then discovered many other smeared cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement report initial examinations indicate the liquid was likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no indication as to its origin; authorities are currently not informed of any harm in relation with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were working "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the public for tips.
A senior political figure stated the vandalism rendered him stunned and had to be solved promptly.
"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right attack in 2020," he wrote on online, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in five years prior.
